Summertime is right around the corner, and you know what that means: it’s time to prepare and pack for overnight lacrosse camp! A first-time camper (or their parents) might be wondering what they need to have on their overnight packing checklist to make sure they have the best week ever. Don’t stress! We’ve made things simple for you so you know exactly what to pack, but also what to expect, as you prepare for your first summer lacrosse camp experience.
“Must Have’s” On Your Packing Checklist
Packing for a lacrosse camp can be tricky because you’re not only packing for lacrosse, but you’re also packing for the variety of overnight summer camp activities. In addition, mother nature has a mind of her own, so it’s good to come prepared! We’ve put together a simple and convenient packing list so you can get organized heading into your week away from home, and we’ve expanded on the list below for the more context!
The most important items! Make sure you pack everything you would typically pack for lacrosse practice. We also recommend packing EXTRA mouthguards. It’s better to have too many than not enough. We wouldn’t want a player to misplace their mouthguard and have trouble coming prepared to practice sessions after that!
- Protective Gear (extra mouthguards!)
Summer Camp Gear
All of the traditional sleepaway camp essentials that you would normally bring for a week-long trip should be included here. Expect hot days and cool nights. Athletic clothes that are lightweight and comfortable are your “go-to’s” at overnight lacrosse camp. Make sure you pack extra socks- these get sweaty and dirty quickly and we see a lot of our campers go through multiple pairs of socks a day. In the event of inclement weather, we’ll move activities indoors, but it’s not a bad idea to pack a rain jacket just in case you want it!
- Comfortable clothes (for both hot & cooler climate)
- Extra undergarments
Pro Tip: LABEL EVERYTHING. Did we say everything? Yes, everything. Remember, each camper is coming with the exact same things and are sharing the same space. So the more you label, the easier packing everything back up will be, and the fewer “lost and found” articles we will have for you to sift through at checkout (did we mention most “lost and found” items are smelly….)
When you’re packing your overnight gear, don’t forget your favorite pillow, and make sure to bring a blanket! The A/C hits colder when you’ve been acclimating to the hot summer temperatures all day, so you’ll be happy you brought an extra cozy layer. We also notice a few campers each session forgets a towel! We recommend both an outside towel used for swimming, and a bathing towel to keep in your dorm. Additionally, campers love to bring a few things to snuggle up with from home to lessen homesickness.
- Pillow & Blanket
- Eye mask/ear plugs (for the light sleepers!)
- A little piece of home
