Thinking about sending your child to an overnight camp this summer? One of the most important parts of camp is ensuring your child will be safe the entire time they are “on their own”… away from home! As a parent, you need peace of mind that your kid will have the best experience possible: proper supervision, a qualified staff, and the right summer camp safety and medical procedures to expect the unexpected.
At Signature Sports Camps, we completely understand your safety concerns: it’s your baby going off alone, after all! Our #1 priority is summer camp safety: from our counselors to our protocols, we are well-equipped to provide the safest environment possible.
Staff Training
Our coaches, counselors, and directors will be alongside your child for the entire duration of the camp, so our summer camp safety procedures begin with onboarding staff. We carefully look at each candidate through the application process to ensure each coach is the perfect fit for camp: responsible, energetic, and an ideal role model for your camper. After a background check & reference checks, our coaches go through both virtual & in-person onboarding and training. This training covers safety precautions, including supervision, aquatics safety, recognizing signs of child abuse, transportation & off-campus safety, and so much more. Our virtual & in-person training is layered with assessments and demonstrations to ensure that each staff member is competent in each skill we train for.
On the Journey: American Camp Association Accreditation
Have you heard of the ACA Accreditation? The American Camp Association Accreditation is the highest health, safety, & risk management certification we can achieve in our industry. ACA Accreditation can take years to complete, and we are on target to get our accreditation this summer after our On-Site Audits. Camps only obtain this after over 260 Standards are written, reviewed, and implemented. These standards are designed to give campers the best possible experience, and we are proud to host our ACA Visitors at our camp locations this year.
Dedicated Health & Safety Staff
Sure, we may be set up for success between our staff training and our standards & policies, but what happens if a medical emergency occurs? While we hope this never happens, we are prepared if it does. All our Directors, Assistant Directors, and Leads are required to be First Aid, CPR, & AED certified. Our staff in these positions stay on campus with the campers and are available at any time of the day or night, no matter the situation.
In addition to our 24/7 staff members with these certifications, each location has a Nurse on-site or on-call nearby. Our Camp Nurses are Registered Nurses, Doctors, or EMTs. We also have a Health Director with experience in camp health specifically, who reviews our Medical Plans, Logs, and Incident Reports annually. Our Health Director is also on-call for on-site support!
The Extra Mile
Does your camper have a unique health concern or need? You’ll meet with our Camp Nurse at check-in to review your child’s medical plan, allergies, and/or medication administration. Our Camp Nurse will keep in contact with you as needed from there; however, if you’d like a little more TLC, we also offer a “Medical Add-On.” Within our “Pathfinder Package” premium add-on, our Medical Add-On includes a daily message from our Camp Nurse to give an update on your camper’s medical plan or medications.
As I’m sure you can see, the safety & health of our campers is our #1 priority. Honestly, camp safety must come first so our campers can have the best possible experience, and our camp parents can rest easy knowing that their kids are safe and having the time of their lives.
